Gloria and Sara
THE SALVATION ARMY TORRANCE SENIOR DAY CARE CENTER

Two days a week RSVP volunteer Gloria travels to the Adult Day Care center to her new friend Sara, who spends the day in the center. Sara is a senior who has been brought to the Salvation Army Adult Day Care Center in Torrance, where a warm and loving atmosphere is combined with activities designed to stretch seniors mentally, socially and physically.

Families are the winners in this service because they get the well-deserved respite care for their senior family member. During this day care time they can attend to the errands that need to be done that are postponed due to the care they must give to their senior family member.

Volunteer Gloria gets great satisfaction in the variety of work from transporting the seniors from one building to another so that they can attend the creative craft projects or serve the day care seniors with their coffee, tea and lunch.

Gloria knows that she is making a great contribution to the families by having them know that they can avoid undue stress that results from concern for a loved one left alone, vulnerable to falls, inadequate nutrition and in some instances, disorientations which may lead to that senior becoming lost in one’s own neighborhood.

Gloria hopes that readers will take her lead and call the RSVP office to volunteer a few hours a week with her in this important work of looking after our seniors in their later years of life. It is fun and interesting work.
