It was Bert's idea to start a volunteer. program in the Patrol Division of the Police Department in the city of Redondo Beach. A program that Chief Nichols, who has since retired, had mandated for the department.

RSVP of South Bays’ lead contact for sending our new volunteer members to for training is none other than Burt! He does all the scheduling and assignments. To date there are 23 Volunteers in Policing.

He boasts that the volunteers give 38,000 hours and that the success of the program is attributed to the support of the management at the Police Department.

Some of the duties include, welcomeing new business to Redondo Beach, making home vacation checks, writing citations for Handicap Parking violations, reporting graffiti for quick removal, touring parks and schools, responding to emergency situations, traffic control and maning DUI & license checkpoints.

Thanks to Bert, Redondo Beach is a safer place to work, live and play.
