Together, the Torrance Police Department and the participants in Partners In Policing use the "teamwork" approach to make our community a safer place to live and work.
This class will give you a behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of the TPD, and allows you to “walk in the shoes of an officer,” by experiencing hands-on exercises relating to the duties, services and responsibilities of policing. So, if you've ever wondered . . .
Why some police stops are made with guns drawn, and some are not
How K-9's are trained
What the jail looks like
How a "pit" maneuver is done
What it looks like through a high-powered SWAT rifle

Sign-up for PIP! You'll learn all this, and more, by attending. You will also see demonstrations from the SWAT and K-9 teams, and you'll meet Officers from the Gang, Crime Scene Investigation, Forgery, Vice & Narcotics, Juvenile, and other divisions. They will explain their investigative responsibilities and share stories from the field. Plus, there are hands-on classes where you'll go through a driver's training course and use the Firearms Training Simulator.

Space is limited, so if you're interested in participating in PIP, call the Community Affairs Office at (310) 618-6392.
