The Mission of RSVP of South Bay is to improve lives and strengthen communities through services and volunteerism. To accomplish our mission, we utilize the skills of older Americans in addressing critical issues of the community whether they are educational, environmental, health, public safety or other identified needs.
Additionally, RSVP has positioned itself to facilitate the transition of Baby Boomers from the profit making into the nonprofit sectors of the community as volunteers, making the theme “Transitioning to Community Services” the hallmark of our services.
RSVP of the South Bay is part of the national RSVP organization which is one of the largest volunteer programs in the United States. Its goal is to link the needs of the community with the skills of older Americans, 55 years of age and older, who are willing to help.
RSVP of South Bay is a nonprofit agency that is funded in part by the Corporation for National Service and matched in dollars by corporations, foundations, clubs and individual donors in the community.
Service Communities: RSVP of South Bay serves the communities of Torrance, Manhattan, Hermosa, and Redondo Beach, the four cities on Palos Verdes Peninsula, El Segundo and Lomita.
Services we perform: Volunteers serve as a support system to over 115 non-profit agencies in the South Bay. They tutor children and teenagers; serve as guides in airports; support law enforcement operations; serve as docents in museums; provide support in hospitals and human service agencies; knit caps for children with cancer; support Homeland Security; and perform whatever else their skills and interests lead them to do to meet the needs of the community.
Operations: RSVP receives and advertises volunteer opportunities; it registers and places volunteers at the sites throughout the South Bay. It provides accident and liability insurance for the volunteer during their hours of work. An annual Volunteer Recognition Banquet highlights the year.
Importance: Older Americans are in an integral part of the whole community. RSVP exists to provide these individuals an opportunity to remain a vital and active part of the community. A volunteer's service to the community is a win-win proposition: serving the community gives them a sense of ownership and purpose, and it enhances both their quality of life and the quality of life in the communities where they serve.
Achievements: The capacity for our growth depends upon the quality of services that our customers receive. Each year, through RSVP of South Bay, volunteers provide on an average of 100,000 hours of service.
