Old Torrance to be site of city's first street fair

By Nick Green Staff Writer

In an effort to bring more people to struggling Old Torrance, plans are under way to host the city's first-ever street fair and craft beer festival this summer.

Scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 30, what's dubbed the Torrance Block Party will boast 100 arts and crafts vendors, a "Taste of Torrance" with eight local restaurants serving samples from their menus and musical entertainment on three separate stages.

One of those stages, featuring rock 'n' roll bands, will be set up in the parking lot of the Red Car Brewery & Restaurant that will double for the day as a craft beer tent. As many as a dozen regional microbreweries are expected to showcase their products.

"The idea of this party is to expose people to the downtown area, people who haven't been down there for a long time," Mayor Frank Scotto said. "It could be a signature-type event for the city of Torrance."     read more
