PV on the Net has recently opened a New Computer Technology Center at the Rancho Palos Verdes City Hall Complex. Volunteers are needed to staff various positions. Skills required range from very minimal to computer knowledge as a plus.

Opportunities Available;

1. Volunteers to teach computer classesfor beginners. The students are mostly seniors. The classes are for one hour every Tuesday and Wednesday, scheduled between 1:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m. focusing on MS Excel, MS Word, Basic Computer and Paint. Volunteers should be computer literate and enjoy teaching. Additional subjects can be added based on the skills of available volunteers.

2. Business Incubator Coordinators to work with young adults in developing and starting up a business from start to finish. The volunteers will provide guidance to young adults with the goal of walking them through the process of starting and operating an internet based business. The skill set among these volunteers must include 1 person with a business background, and 1 person with a computer background.

3. Volunteers to staff the reception desk at the Learning Center. Volunteers will answer the phone, register students, and log information into a computer database. Four hours minimum once a week, Monday through Saturday.

4. Volunteers to support instructors during the summer youth animation program. Two hours minimum per week, Mondays through Fridays, and possibly on Sat during open lab time.

5. Volunteer Instructors to teach Adobe Photo Shop or Dreamweaver. Volunteers must have a working knowledge of the programs. Classes are for one hour once a week.

6. Volunteers needed to support various web based projects. Four hours minimum, once a week. Volunteers will be required to perform various activities such as recording interviews, scanning pictures and developing stories for web pages.

7. Volunteers needed with a marketing background. 4 hours minimum per week, to work as a marketing team to come up with ideas for new and interesting programs, seminars, find guest speakers, communicate with companies to request their products and support for use in the technology center, write and send out press releases, and promote the technology center utilizing all available forms of communications.

8. Volunteers needed to for public relations. These volunteers will represent the technology center by attending meetings with other organizations for the purpose of promoting the technology center.

9. Volunteers needed with AVID video editing skills. These volunteers will edit a video documentary about the history of the Palos Verdes Peninsula.
